Barcelona is an excellent destination for all kinds of excursions. You have so many options to choose from. Aside from the regular entertainment, there are street parties and outdoor events almost every month. Barcelona offers many possibilities, from the traditional carnival to a live music festival and even a “music film” fest.

We’ve covered the most important events, but this list is incomplete. For now, check out these main dates. If festivals aren’t for you, many other Barcelona highlights can be explored throughout this vibrant city.

Barcelona Carnival

February / March

The Barcelona Carnival, a major street event, involves the usual carnival dancers and floats as well as music, costumes, and music. This event celebrates the arrival of the Carnival king and is observed in many neighborhoods of Barcelona.

Barcelona Beer Festival

The Barcelona Beer Festival takes place over three days in March. It features a wide range of craft beers, wines, spirits, champagne, delicatessens, oils, and spoonfuls of vinegar.

Formula 1 Gran Premio de Espana Pirelli

The Formula 1 Gran Premio de Espana Pirelli is only two years old and offers F1 fans many unique experiences, including racing simulators, a 200-meter zip line, and Pit Stop Challenges. It also features local DJs and live musicians.

Sonar Festival

Sonar, Europe’s most prominent dance music, and digital media festival, is one of Europe’s most famous festivals. It is second only to Glastonbury in terms of popularity. As expected, the event attracts over 125,000 attendees and features many DJs and top-name acts. You don’t have to worry about the weather as it is mid-summer.

Gay Pride

Barcelona Gay Pride takes place at the end of June and is an all-day event with stage shows, activities, and other events.

Cruilla

August

The Cruilla, smaller than Primavera and Sonar but has a smaller audience and a niche program, is better suited for alternative music and independence.

Monegros Desert Festival

August

The Monegros Desert Festival has a unique atmosphere. The MDF, formerly Groove Parade, is an electronic music festival that has been around for 20 years.

Benicassim

August

The Festival Internacional de Benicassim is a music festival of many genres held in Benicassim on the coast of Spain. This festival has been running since 1995.

Circuit Festival

August

The Circuit Festival, a 20-year-old festival of international renown, celebrates Barcelona’s position as the gay capital in Europe.

Fiesta De Barceloneta

September

Barcelona’s traditional street festival is the Fiesta De Barceloneta, which takes place in late September. It includes many activities, such as Correfocs (devil fire runs), Sardanas (habaneras singing songs), and Giant Parades featuring “Gegants,” named Maria la Neta and Pep Barcelo. The ornate streets, cannon parades, and other activities make this a significant festival.

Huge week-long street party!

La Merce has been the annual festival for Barcelona since 1871. It celebrates the official status of a city. This festival has a deeper meaning with a particular Roman Catholic program.
